WACH  Committee

The WATCH Committee (Working All Together Caring & Helping through the Cross) was set up by the Kirk Session in 1991 with the specific remit to support and raise awareness of local charities. Since then the committee has raised funds for many local causes including:

Capability Scotland                             Richmond’s Hope

Cystic Fibrosis                                     Disability Snowsport UK

Down’s Syndrome                               The Yard Adventure Centre

Motor Neurone Disease                       Erskine Edinburgh Home

Parkinson’s Disease                            Teenage Cancer Trust

Rock Trust                                             Hearing Dogs for Deaf People

Fresh Start                                            Clowndoctors

The charity chosen by the WATCH Committee for 2018 is Alzheimer Scotland based at the Prentice Centre in Granton (Scottish Charity SC022315). We will donate all funds raised this year to the charity and we expect our donation to be used to provide training for volunteers.

Alzheimer Scotland provides a service to individuals with a diagnosis of dementia and their families and carers. They offer information and advice, family outreach support, carer support and education, day centre opportunities, befriending and community activities.

Our fundraising programme started with the Summer Coin Collection. During July and August children and adults attending services brought their loose change and over the weeks the sum donated grew and grew. After the last service in August we counted up all the donations which came to the grand total of £909.26.

The Craft Coffee Morning on Saturday 13th October was held on a very wet day but our supporters turned out to fill the large hall. With the help of the servers of tea and coffee and the clever people running the craft stalls and donations from well-wishers we raised the wonderful sum of £943.05.

The Christmas Fair on 1st December was supported really well by the local business community and the local residents. We raised over £6,770 on a rather dull day and were delighted to add this to our growing fund.

We expect to hand over a cheque for the total raised for the year to Alzheimer Scotland at a service in January 2019.
