Music plays a most important part in the worship of Blackhall, St. Columba and in the strength of its commitment to music, in 2006 the congregation raised £200,000 to build a new, bespoke Pipe Organ for the church sanctuary, something the church, until then, had never had.
In 2007, the church added a fine baby grand piano to its roster of instruments, allowing a greater range of repertoire to be explored. St. Columba's is blessed to have a fine adult choir (approximately 25 singers), who contribute to weekly Sunday services with an Introit and Anthem.
In addition, we have the Junior Singers (from P3-7 ages) who perform several times during the Church year on their own and who also go to local nursing homes to sing to the elderly.
Last but not least, we have our praise group, Sing Aloud! who are involved enriching the major church festivals. New members of any of our music groups are always encouraged and welcomed. Please get in touch if you should like to know more, or become more involved.
The choir supports the congregation in the provision of music during the Sunday worship. It also produces additional musical items, particularly for Christian festivals such as Christmas and Easter. Practices are held on Sunday mornings from 9:30am during the autumn and winter months.
