WACH  Committee

The WATCH Committee (Working All Together Caring & Helping through the Cross) was set up by the Kirk Session in 1991 with the specific remit to support and raise awareness of local charities. Since then the committee has raised funds for many local causes.

The charities chosen by the WATCH Committee for 2019 are Beach Wheelchairs Portobello and Kindred, a family support service based at the Sick Kids Hospital.

Beach Wheelchairs Portobello (registered charity SC046190) provide the free hire of beach wheelchairs adjacent to the promenade at Portobello beside the Tumbles car park. The wheelchairs are suitable for children and adults and a hoist is available if required. We aim to donate funds to provide a new chair for children.

Kindred (registered charity SC000264) have a team based at Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children which provides practical information, emotional support and guidance, supporting families of children with complex needs. They also have a trained therapist who provides massage therapy in the ward.

We were delighted that the Summer Coin Collection during July and August raised £905.89.

On a rather wet Saturday, 19th October, the Craft Coffee Morning was particularly well supported by stallholders, caterers and customers raising the fine total of £875.55.

The Christmas Fair on Saturday 30th November took place while the heating boilers were being replaced but the atmosphere in the halls was warm and cheerful. As the Church was part way through refurbishment there was no music in the Church but most of the normal stalls and attractions were there.

With donations from the Carol Singers and others we finished with the total of £8,220 for the charities.

Two cheques for £4,110 each were presented to Kindred and Beach Wheelchairs Portobello at the service on 26th January 2020.
